Natural Cat Scratch Deterrent

Time and time again my essential oils amaze me. But using them to deter the cats from clawing our suede lounge takes the cake. We have to chase them away from the lounge every day. We hear that dreaded clawing sound and run to chase them before they do permanent damage.

I came across a recipe last week and tried it. It did make the cats stop and sniff around, but they still ended up clawing the lounge. I tried a new blend each day until I finally found this one that has stopped them clawing altogether.

I put approximately 1 cup of water,  10 drops of doTERRA Eucalyptus Oil and 10 drops of doTERRA Lemon Oil in a spray bottle, shook it up and sprayed it on the corners of the lounge where the cats claw every day.

The first day they came up and sniffed around, but then walked away. I haven't seen them near the lounge at all since then. This seemed too good to be true, but it's been 4 days and they still haven't been near the lounge.

I'm going to spray it every week and see how it goes. I will update this blog down the track to let you know if it is still working. Fingers crossed!

  1. You know any citrus oil is toxic to cats right

  2. This is bad recommendation because this essential oils are toxic to cats... Their internal organs will fail... Don't use essential oils without knowing what they can do to your pets...
